So many shake-ups in the pop-culture world: Each month Vuclip,
a company that serves videos to mobile devices in over 200 countries,
pulls back the curtain to show what people want to watch on-the-go. The
rankings for September display marked differences from the August
results.
For starters, Britney Spears rocketed to the top of the
chart. Previously at number 10, she jumped to number 1. Even more
surprising, WWE, which hadn't even been on the list in August, took the
second spot. Lindsay Lohan, who also hadn't charted in August, took the
third position.
The full top ten for September, 2011, were Britney
Spears, WWE, Lindsay Lohan, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian,
Katy Perry, Rihanna, Harry Potter, and Shakira.
Compared to
August, Bieber fell from 1 to 5, Rihanna fell from 2 to 8, Kim
Kardashian fell 3 to 6, and Naruto and Lady Gaga fell off the list
completely. "While the particulars of mobile video searches and
views shift month over month, we see consistent trends," says Nickhil
Jakatdar, co-founder and CEO of Vuclip. "Celebrities, not just in the
U.S. but globally, dominate search. And the appetite for viewing content
tends to be a mixture of both user-generated and professionally
produced content. For a video service to be successful, you have to
offer consumers both."
