If you’re familiar with Taylor Swift‘s
tendency to perform cover songs by local artists, you might have seen
this one coming. Last night, Swift took her Speak Now Tour to Louisiana,
and that meant it was her chance to honor one of the state’s most
famous pop music exports, Britney Spears, with
a cover of Brit’s ‘Lucky.’
Swift performed at the CenturyTel Center and played ‘Lucky’ during
her solo acoustic portion of the set. Her fans joined in as Taylor sang
the chorus from the 2000 hit song by Spears, who grew up in Kentwood,
La.: “She’s so lucky, she’s a star / But she cry, cry, cries in her
lonely heart / Thinking, if there’s nothing missing in my life / Then
why do these tears come at night?”
With a lot of pop singers sticking to the same setlist night in and
night out, we give Taylor credit for switching things up and always
keeping her fans guessing. The crowd energy for the Britney cover didn’t seem as high as when
Swift covered Eminem in Detroit
or Justin Bieber
in Toronto.
But that could be because the only video we have is a low-quality cell
phone clip. Check it out below.
